September of ‘87, watching this episode on WPIX. Little me, barely able to understand or to think or really see the world beyond my hometown, turns to his mother:
"I want to do that. I want to be an actor someday."
She nods politely. I never stop going for this dream. It’s been nearly a quarter of a century chasing my storytelling yearnings from New York to London to Los Angeles to Nashville, and I have never stopped. These fifteen seconds made me wonder how you could be a person who makes the Enterprise appear on television. Whether there was a job where you could join the crew and have other adventures.
If I ever meet him, I’ll thank Jonathan Frakes for inspiring the greatest adventure my life could ever know, the purpose that has driven me around this world and to succeed more than any other.
Thank you, Commander.
